Join us for a three‑session Social Justice learning series with Becca Heisler on April 19, April 26, and May 3, from 4:00-5:30 PM.
This class will explore examples from Torah, Talmud, and Halacha of different strategies for pursuing justice between people and communities when harm occurs. We will look at text sources that stretch across continents and millennia to see how these ideas have evolved over time, and think about them in terms of our own relationships, families, and communities. All sources will be in Hebrew and English, all are welcome and invited to come learn!
Class #1 will look at arei miklat (cities of refuge), a form of protection from vengeance for those who commit unintentional harm
Class #2 will look at cherem and nidui (excommunication), separation or ostracization from community as a consequence for harm
Class #3 will look at teshuvah/repair, healing in relationship and changing behavior
Classes will be available exclusively via Zoom.
