We are always seeking volunteers to support and connect with the MVHC community, the only Jewish progressive congregation on Martha’s Vineyard. We are committed to the health, education, and well-being of our friends and neighbors on the Island. Volunteer opportunities like our Annual Food Waste Initiative and Hanukkah Coat Drive are open to everyone. We are also proud to work alongside many other organizations on the Island to provide meals and housing for those in need. Members of our congregation provide financial support for our local Martha’s Vineyard community through the Island Tzedakah Fund. Donations made to the Fund stay on the Island and are granted to organizations addressing housing and food insecurity, progressive advocacy as well as individuals in need of support with medical expenses, caregiving and other home care assistance, heating bills, and other essentials. We also accept donations to the Global Tzedakah fund, which furthers our mission of justice and peace worldwide.
Our Social Action Committee leads the congregation’s collective impact and contributions to progressive social causes, both locally and nationally. We are committed to ensuring reproductive freedom, reducing gun violence, supporting racial and economic justice, and upholding immigrant and refugee rights.
